Ninewells Pavilion

Ninewells image1Trellis Scotland are a charity who run therapeutic gardens all over Scotland and have recently started a further project in the grounds of Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. With further backing from the Forestry Commission, MacroMicro Studio have undertaken to design and build a small scale shelter for the garden users. The aim is that the shelter will provide more than just a place to keep dry, but add to the therapeutic nature of the garden – a place not only to work but to converse and feel part of a community. Sitting next to the arboretum and next to several well-used footpaths, the shelter also provides the opportunity to create an intrigue and interest from the public passing the garden. In addition, there is a hope that by utilising good environmental design, power may be attainable on site with the installation photovoltaic cells and by managing the rainwater run-off carefully, there is potential to have water on site as well and potentially aid in the irrigation of the garden.
